Dart 18 spanner line - non spliced
Runs from the clew of the mainsail to the mast
Maintains the sail's shape on a downwind course
Supplied at maximum length, without splices
The spanner line runs through the clew eye of the mainsail to the mast bracket and is used to maintain the sail's profile when sailing downwind. Use a 6mm carabiner (R7431) to hook the line onto the mast bracket. Often, during tacking, the crew may find that the line obstructs them, and they may choose to shorten the line. To some extent, this is acceptable (although it is recommended to keep the line as long as allowed for optimal sailing performance). However, if the line becomes too short, it may prevent tightening the mainsail sufficiently when sailing close to the wind. Prescribed length (also according to class rules):
Minimum length: 297 cm
Maximum length: 397 cm"
